【摘要】:Objectives8212;Theuseofsmallchamberstoevaluateorganicemissionsfromindoormaterialshasseveralobjectives:Developtechniquesforscreeningofproductsfororganicemissions;Determinetheeffectofenvironmentalvariables(thatis,temperature,humidity,airexchange)onemissionrates;Rankvariousproductsandproducttypeswithrespecttotheiremissionsprofiles(forexample,emissionfactors,specificorganiccompoundsemitted);Providecompound-specificdataonvariousorganicsourcestoguidefieldstudiesandassistinevaluatingindoorairqualityinbuildings;Provideemissionsdataforthedevelopmentandverificationofmodelsusedtopredictindoorconcentrationsoforganiccompounds;andDevelopdatausefultomanufacturersandbuildersforassessingproductemissionsanddevelopingcontroloptionsorimprovedproducts.MassTransferConsiderations8212;Smallchamberevaluationofemissionsfromindoormaterialsrequiresconsiderationoftherelevantmasstransferprocesses.Threefundamentalprocessescontroltherateofemissionsoforganicvaporsfromindoormaterials;evaporativemasstransferfromthesurfaceofthematerialtotheoverlyingair,desorptionofadsorbedcompounds,anddiffusionwithinthematerial.Formoreinformation,refertoBird,Stewart,andLightfoot(1960)andBennettandMyers(1962)inX1.1.Theevaporativemasstransferofagivenorganiccompoundfromthesurfaceofthematerialtotheoverlyingaircanbeexpressedas:1.1Thisguideprovidesguidanceondeterminationofemissionsoforganiccompoundsfromindoormaterialsandproductsusingsmall-scaleenvironmentaltestchambers.1.2Thisguidepertainstochambersthatfullyencloseamaterialspecimentobetestedanddoesnotaddressotheremissionchamberdesignssuchasemissioncells(seeinsteadPracticeD7143).1.3AsanASTMstandard,thisguidedescribesoptions,butdoesnotrecommendspecificcoursesofaction.Thisguideisnotastandardtestmethodandmustnotbeconstruedassuch.1.4Theuseofsmallenvironmentaltestchamberstocharacterizetheorganicemissionsofindoormaterialsandproductsisstillevolving.Modificationsandvariationsinequipment,testingprocedures,anddataanalysisaremadeastheworkintheareaprogresses.Forseveralindoormaterials,moredetailedASTMstandardsforemissionstestinghavenowbeendeveloped.WheremoredetailedASTMstandardpracticesormethodsexist,theysupersedethisguideandshouldbeusedinitsplace.Untiltheinterestedpartiesagreeuponstandardtestingprotocols,differencesinapproachwilloccur.Thisguidewillcontinuetoprovideassistancebydescribingequipmentandtechniquessuitablefordeterminingorganicemissionsfromindoormaterials.Specificexamplesareprovidedtoillustrateexistingapproaches;theseexamplesarenotintendedtoinhibitalternativeapproachesortechniquesthatwillproduceequivalentorsuperiorresults.1.5Smallchambershaveobviouslimitations.Normally,onlysamplesoflargermaterials(forexample,carpet)aretested.Smallchambersarenotapplicablefortestingcompleteassemblages(forexample,furniture).Smallchambersarealsoinappropriatefortestingcombustiondevices(forexample,keroseneheaters)oractivities(forexample,useofaerosolsprayproducts).Forsomeproducts,smallchambertestingmayprovideonlyaportionoftheemissionprofileofinterest.Forexample,therateofemissionsfromtheapplicationofhighsolventmaterials(forexample,paintsandwaxes)viabrushing,spraying,rolling,etc.aregenerallyhigher......
